Getting Ombre'd

I've been really wanting to Ombre my hair, but just haven't gotten around to it, plus it's so dang $$ in the city. Plus I don't want to just have any joe shmo color my hair. Well I decided it was time to do something different. I had a coupon to a salon I've been going to for a while now...they will remain nameless...and thought I'd just the $30 off on getting my hair ombre'd. Well I called to set up an appointment and was told they do ombre highlighting but I would need to come in for a consultation first. So I made the trek to the UWS and had a consultation. I sat in the stylists chair and she asked "what are you looking do to with your hair". I replied I wanted to have my hair ombre'd. She then responded "what's that?!". RED FLAG, DANGER, STOP, YIKES, REALLY?! What NYC stylist does not know what ombre highlights are?! I stuttered out a response to which she replied "oh yes I know that. We basically take big panels of highlights starting at the crown of the head"...RED FLAG, DANGER, STOP, YIKES, REALLY? I may not be a hair stylist but I KNOW that is not the process! So I kindly smiled, took her card, and when she wasn't looking, dashed out of the salon and didn't look back. Needless to say I will not be going there for my hair coloring. I started to think this whole idea was down the drain, but decided to start searching elsewhere. I stopped by a salon on our block just to check out their prices. I walked into the salon and was greeted by a hip, pink colored hair, petite girl. I simply asked if they did the ombre coloring and how much it would be. I was then told, with a snarky/catty/snobby response "well I can maybe get you in to see Jonathan for $350"....I'M SORRY WHAT?! So I again kindly said thanks and beelined out of there. If I wanted to spend $350 on something...it would for sure not be bleach for my hair! So I had officially lost all hope. But then a co-worker mentioned she was getting her hair ombre'd this weekend and I asked WHERE and HOW MUCH!? Only $100 (which in NY is actually pretty cheap!) and the salon is super adorable. So I looked up the salon and was convinced this place was going to be awesome! All the reviews on yelp were 5 stars and nothing bad to say! So I booked it! Yahooooo! So now I just need to decide what look I'm going for. So I googled some images of ombre'd hair and of course decided to copy one of my idols...LAUREN CONRAD! I think I have a very similar hair color to her so I think it would be a great option for me...and I love her so..done and done. By tomorrow at 5 pm I will have a fresh, updated look. Too cool for school! I kid I kid! Here are the images I'm using for reference and tomorrow I will post the finished product!

Welcome back to the world

I'm coming out from under the rock I've been living for the past...oh I don't know, 4 months! That is 100% not ok! I need to get back into the blogging state of mind. When I do blog, I feel up to date, fresh and inspired. So I've decided to saddle up and really get back into the swing of things. Now I'm not going to get crazy and try and blog everyday--but I really think I could manage 2 posts a week...maybe 3! I will say there are some blogs out there that post everyday if not multiple times a day...NO THANKS! That's info overload and really who cares to read that much about one person's opinions, inspirations and such?! I think that walks the line of being a little bit self indulgent o_O! But hey to each his own!

So things have really changed around here since my last post! Since my last post I've been to Paris, turned 25, and wait for it....GOT MY DREAM JOB!!!! Holy Moly! You have no idea how amazing it feels to find a job that you LOVE and work with a team you LOVE! I left RL and moved to ANTHROPOLOGIE!!! Pinch me! Sometimes I don't even think it's real. Something I have really dreamed about doing and it happened. I'm on the visual team at the Rock Center Anthro store. I literally was giddy my first few weeks there and not going to lie, I don't think that will change. My team is awesome too. Everyone that works there is super cool and nice. I know that sounds simple, "they're nice", but it makes a world of difference! Lunch time scenario = 8+ people from all different departments sitting in the break room shooting the shit (pardon my french)! I feel like this is such a rarity in the work place. Most people stick to their cliques or eat alone, but here everyone wants to have fun and really create great relationships! Anywho I could go on and on about my amazing new job (jealous yet?!) but I'll move on!

One thing about my new job is I am constantly being inspired by fashion, style and just the everyday. I really have taken a step back to think about what I want out of life---oh man we're getting deep here people! I recently re-vamped my whole bedroom. I got a new comforter, pillows, bedskirt, curtains, etc and I feel a new vibe in my room. Before it was really dark and now it's fun and light--something I need more of in my life. While I've decided to get back to blogging I really want to bring in some new things to my blog. ..

Holy Moly, Cheese and Rice, OMG, Jeeeezus, A-Woo-Hoo.... I don't know any other way to express my excitement for PARIS! We leave tomorrow and it could not come soon enough. I started packing last night, well let's get real, I started "mentally" packing like 2 weeks ago. I'm pretty much done and I am thoroughly shocked at how little I have packed/how much room I have in my suitcase. I mean a small car could fit in the extra space! I pack more for a 2 day trip home than I have for my trip to Paris. That being said...don't you worry, the things I did pack are jam packed with cuteness. The only things in there are girly dresses. We are thinking of doing a bike ride/tour while we are there and I was thinking of packing some sort of pants or anything appropriate for riding a bike...but NO! I will ride that bike in a Anthropologie dress adorned with frogs and tulle. I'm signing off for now but I will be back very soon with lots and lots of pics!

As many of you already know...I'M GOING TO PARIS! For my 25th birthday I decided it actually had to be a good birthday. Not like last year where Alison and I went to the BBQ place down the street and engorged ourselves with a meal fit for 5 people. Followed by hating ourselves on the walk home for eating so much and crawling into bed by 9 pm. Yes that is a true story of my birthday last year. Well...I had to step it up, so why not step it up by leaving the country! HIYO! So Alison and I leave in 4 days...4 DAYS PEOPLE! And I am beyond pumped. Our agenda looks amazing, but not all jam packed. We want to "live" in Paris while we are there. It's going to be hands down the best birthday ever. I will say though since we are "living" in Paris while we are there, I have outlawed all "tourist" type clothing. "There will be no tourist shorts or shoes". So in other words we can't stick out like a sore thumb. Oh hey look at those Americans! I kid, I kid. We will be dressed up everyday. Pretty much embody Carrie Bradshaw for a few days. I kid you not the only thing I'm packing are girly dresses, fun headbands/hats, and red lipstick. I will say we are leaving our heels at home (except for birthday dinner heels), because let's face it...there's no cute way of wearing heels ALL day walking around the city. Heck I can't even walk around the block at home in heels...let alone Versailles! Oh yes just had to throw that in. I watched Marie Antoinette the other weekend with Kirsten Dunst and was in awe of Versailles! I would love to live in that time period! Anywho, I will be taking pictures out the ying yang (bought an extra memory card that holds something like 800 pics)! I also plan on taking some Paris street fashion pics. I hope I don't come across as a creepy tourist snapping pics of random people. All in all this trip is going to fan-freaking-tastic! I've been brushing up on my french the past few days. I will say...I'm a liiiiiitle rusty. After taking French from elementary school through college, you would think I am fluent, BUT sadly, no. My southern drawl tends to sneak in there somehow and I sound ridiculous! I will keep you posted on the trip and be sure to upload tons of pics! Au revoir!

Online shopping: Helpful or Headache?

Well let me start off by saying HAPPY FRIDAY! Man this week seemed long being only 4 days. But I'm glad it's the weekend because I have nothing going on and I plan to keep it that way. So over the past few weeks I've been on a dress hunt. One of my best friends from home, Alex (shout out!) is getting married in May and she asked me to be in her house party. Well I've been on the hunt to find the perfect dress to go along with the chocolate, ivory and pink color scheme. Now let me tell you, brown is a hard color to find in dresses. They are either too bridesmaidy (I'm not a bridesmaid so I don't want to go in that direction) or they look really cheap. I have, I kid you not, gone to every possible website searching for a dress. Working in the ecommerce world, I am all about shopping online. HOWEVER, coming from the ecommerce world I have very high expectations for websites. Ralphlauren.com has one of the best, if not the best, website. I may be biased haha but we really do pride ourselves on keeping our site, clean, exciting and accurately portraying the product so the customer has an amazing shopping experience. Well, after searching and searching through dresses I finally found one at Madewell. It was on sale and SUPER cute, flirty and perfect for what I was needing. It was a great tan, chocolate, black and ivory print with flirty ruffle detailing going down the sleeves and front of the dress. Zipper detailing in the back. It was great! I instantly put it into my shopping bag. Well I started to wonder about sizing. I have only shopped at Madewell a few times, so I was curious about sizing. So I decided to try their "chat with a stylist" application. Basically a chat window pops up and you IM with a "stylist" aka person in customer service! Well I asked them how their sizing ran...simple question and anyone in the customer service, fashion, styling business would know the answer I was looking for...(i.e. "it runs small, runs big, runs true to size, dresses are small, jeans run loose...yada yada). Well this stylist just began rattling off their size chart--which is available on the site and I could have looked at it myself. This was BEYOND not helpful. I can read what my bust, waist and hips are any day but it doesn't mean that's how the clothes will fit. So I decided to call a NY location to see if they had the dress in the store to put on hold for me to try on....the sales person at the store actually laughed at me when I asked about the dress because "that dress is really old". Hmmmmm...insert side eye glance. Yeeeeeah needless to say this was another bust on the help train. So I decided to go ahead and just buy it because I could alwasy return it. Well long story short...I get the dress and it is 100% not what is shown online. The dress I got was grey and black....so once again I called customer service where they proceeded to tell me the sample they had was brown. Basically not consoling me or trying to fix the problem. Not trying to dog on Madewell but this was a very poor shopping experience and leads me to the conclusion that if I want something from Madewell, I will not be shopping at their online site. In a nutshell, I am back on the search for a brown dress because clearly this one is not going to work. How do you feel about online shopping? Are you more hesitant because you can't physically see, touch and try on the product? Does this hinder your online purchases? I know it does for me. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

The day has finally come....

URBAN OUTFITTERS is launching their wedding line BHLDN on February 14th. Oh how coincidental it's on Valentine's day! Can I tell you how badly I want to get married now, strictly so I can buy my dress from Urban?! Vintage wedding styles are the rage right now...and I hope it continues, or this new line BHLDN might be ka-putz! I will say though, everyone seems to be doing vintage-y style weddings so I'm sure this will make them a boat load of cash! With the fact that EVERYONE and their grandma is doing vintage, I do hope though that they keep things unique. I'm just throwing this out there...you really have to know how to pull off the vintage look without going cliche. I think this new brand they are starting is genius and I will be 1st in line to get my dress...even without a man! haha

Steal of the Century

Yes, it's really me...I'm actually making a post. I've been MIA from my blog and the neglect has come to an end. So I'm here to update you on the STEAL OF THE CENTURY!!

So this week is a huge sale week for Ralph Lauren and once in a blue moon, employees get some great discounts on top of their employee discounts. For 3 days Ralph Lauren stores opened their doors to employees giving them an additional 40% off sale items on top of our 40% off discount...so in a nutshell they were just giving us stuff!

So the back story is, when I was in my old position, I handled all the shoe samples. One day this GORGEOUS needlepoint Collection heel came in and I died. I literally threw off the shoes I was wearing and waltzed around our cube in these beautiful heels. Of course many people thought these shoes were ugly, but I LOVED THEM! They were so me and were so not "Ralph Lauren". They are a breed of their own. If Betsy Johnson and Anthropologie had a baby...it would be these shoes. So while I drooled over these shoes....I wept over the price and the reality that I would never own these shoes. They retailed for $1,750...yes that's right folks, more than my rent and utilities. So needless to say I admired them from afar and let my obsession go.

THEN...they announced this crazy sale of 40% off plus another 40%. I went to the mansion with full expectations of not finding anything and nothing being cheap enough for me to buy. Well low and behold, there were my shoes! Holy cow I jumped right on them. I was still thinking they would be too $$, but no they were $180!!!! $180 people...down from $1750! That's beyond crazy...SO I BOUGHT THEM! I got the shoe that I had been drooling over for months for a STEAL! DO YOU MIND THE CAPS?! I'm just trying to convey the excitement I have for buying these shoes for less than they cost!

But now that I've talked these shoes up so much, what do you think? Love it or Hate it?

Yes I know, I know...I'm like 2 months past due on posts. The Holidays took over and eliminated time for blogging. But I'm back and it's 2011! This year I plan to make some positive changes and maybe for once stick to some of my resolutions. I have about 6 things on my resolution list! I see it as a better chance of actually accomplishing one of them! I don't have any good pics/looks to post today, but I promise I will step up my game and get back into the swing of posting! Funky Tights

I bought these tights a while ago and I wanted to wait until it was cool enough to wear them. This week was unusually hot, but I decided to wear them anyways. They were SUPER comfy and a fun print. They are navy based with a floral pattern all-over. I added a camel colored, sweater dress, with navy cardi, belt and ruffle boot. I will say this look is a little matchy matchy with all the navy and browns, but oh well. It was a perfect transition outfit for Fall. It kept me warm but wasn't too fussy. I've been a little lazy about getting dressed in the morning. All I've wanted to do lately is throw on jeans and a shirt, so this was the outfit to wake me up. I guess I had been dressing pretty sloppy because I got a lot of compliments on this look. Slacking in the "look cute for work" department. This look was also great for day and evening. It was casual enough for work but transitioned well that night when Rachel and I went to Rosa Mexicano for dinner...or should I say guacamole, margarita, and doughnut feast! Overall I liked this look, but if I would change anything, it would be the navy cardi...it made it too matchy! Love it or hate it? Does this work?!

I'm back! The last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind and I'm just now getting my feet back on the ground. So much has been going on lately and I'm itching to get back to blogging. Obviously I FAILED at posting every day for a month...but let's get real here people..we all knew I wouldn't make it. So I'm going to make a realistic goal of POST WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT. Sounds easy enough haha!

So to recap the last 2 weeks:

1. My mom was here! Yippee! I always love having my mom and dad here for visits. It brings a piece of home to NYC for a little while. This time around it was just a "Mom visit", so we did the usual girly stuff...shopping, shopping and yes more shopping. (Don't worry Dad we didn't do too much damage!)

2. Ghost tour of the West Village--so instead of the usual Broadway show, we mixed it up a bit with a Ghost Tour. Um...on a scale of 1-10 it was about a 4....sorry! It just wasn't very good. To sum it up, here's a scene: The group walking behind the tour guide down the side walk, stop in front of a building, Tour guide says "This library has had 7 suicides... now we will walk down this way." Wait, I'm sorry, is that it?! That's SCARY?! That's just a sad, realistic story! I want some ghost stories and to be SCARED! Isn't that the point?! Well I've been on the Galveston and New Orleans ghost tours and this was a sad sad try at a ghost tour compared to those. AND! not to mention some random guy on the street actually interrupted the tour guide and told his own ghost story...needless to say our tour guide was 100% upstaged!

3. WE BOOKED OUR HOTEL TO PARIS!!! Alison and I are going for my 25th birthday!...too early for a countdown....?

4. I start my new job on Monday! YAHOO! So pumped!

5. Below you can find our weekend project! We decided, or better yet, our mom highly suggested we "cover the nasty windows" in the kitchen. So we ran down to Anthro, bought some dish towels, bought some curtain rods/clips and made our own curtains! CUTE RIGHT?!

Soon I will post more looks and clothes, I've just been beyond lazy about getting dressed. I'm so thankful that last week is over and I'm on to new and exciting things!

Mom's Visit!

Oh yes it's happening...SUSPENDERS! Don't ya love it! These shorts/suspenders from Club Monaco were on sale for 1/2 price and they were a must have! The shirt I wore with it was also from Club Monaco...but not quite on sale. But that's ok because I had to have this look! When I was checking out the sales girl was like "Omg this is a cute look!" I love that it's quirky and out of the box! I was a little nervous that it looked like a costume, but I think I pulled it off without looking too Sound of Music. I wore brown tights and my brown riding boots. I had contemplated wearing gray tights and my lace up ankle boots but I thought the brown was more neutral and kept the look simple. How often can I wear this look you ask? Well the suspenders are detachable, so I could wear the shorts by themselves or with the suspenders. I could even bust out my sewing kit, channel my inner seamstress and add buttons to some random pants to use the suspenders on. Overall I'm getting my money's worth! The shorts are a light wool pinstripe, so they will work in all seasons. I've been wanting some shorts that are work appropriate and these are just long enough to fit the bill. The shirt is a light silk with shoulder pads (yes people shoulder pads are back). The pattern is a very subtle buckle pattern. The thing I love most is the placket covering the button closures. It helps conceal the buttons so it doesn't show the dreaded "buttons pulling across my chest showing my bra!" For the overall look I got a lot of compliments and some weird stares...but either way I made a statement right?! Sometimes you have to step outside of your comfort box and try something new. Be adventurous! What is your WHOA look? Love it or Hate it. Does this work?

Last Friday

Fridays...casual Friday's. I love this concept (even though everyday is casual Friday where I work) because it lets you relax and be comfy. I decided to bust out a sweater...hey it is Fall right?! So I wore my Rugby cable knit sweater with button detail at the shoulder. I wore skinny jeans to keep it simple and for shoes I wore my men's inspired loafers. These shoes are so cute and I feel like a nerd (in a good way) when I wear them. Nerdy chic! They have light blue tassels on them to give it a little feminine flair. For an outfit I totally just threw on and gave no thought, it still looked very put together. Sometimes when I don't put a lot of thought into a look it can either turn out a hot mess or it can looks super casual. I love sweaters in the cold months because simple, decorative/detailed sweater is so easy to throw on and go. Nothing to think about but throw it on. What's your "go-to, don't feel like thinking" outfit? Love it or hate it? Does this work?

Yes I am quoting Mean Girls. Halloween is upon us people! HALLOWEEN! It is my favorite time of the year! Scary movies all the time. Pumpkins start coming out. Candy is 100% okay to eat everyday all day! But I also find this holiday very stressful...at least when it comes to the costume! I always try and think of something clever to be. Of course every other girl wants to be sexy...I shouldn't say every girl, but A LOT of girls want to be sexy. So they turn anything and everything into something sexy. What happened to scary ghost costumes with blood and fake cuts and scary masks?! Can we bring that back?! But anywho, I'm starting to brainstorm ideas this year. What do you think you will be? The Online Shopping World

Technology is officially taking over the world. I'm waiting to have a robot do all my work for me. But the Internet and online shopping is EXPLODING! Working in the .com world of fashion I see it first hand. Nothing is ever standing still or remaining the same. It is constantly changing and getting better. The capabilities of the Internet are mind blowing. But shopping is now the new arena for technology. Websites are working their butts off to find the most creative innovative way to grab their customers attention. I will say, maybe I'm biased, but Anthropologie's emails and promotions are out of this world. The video capabilities are super cool and it gets me every time. When I get an email from them, I always expect just a plan old email but instead I get thrown into this digital media frenzy! Their latest front door page has this amazing video for styling and looks. I strongly suggest you go check it out. Even if you aren't planning on buying, just watching the interactive video is amazing. Hope you enjoy!

Weekend Warrior/Weekend Wear

In the NYC the term "Weekend Warrior" is often thrown out there. I think the term is in reference to those people that use the weekend to workout at the gym, run errands, and everything else you can't seem to get done in the week. Well last weekend Alison and I were "Weekend Warriors". We thought outside of the usual NYC box of brunch, gym, shopping, going out, lounging in the park, and RENTED BIKES TO RIDE DOWN THE HUDSON. Talk about something new. I felt like I was 9 years old again, riding bikes outside and being totally carefree. We got a groupon for a $30 bike rental or something and we finally put it to use. We wanted to wait for a time that it would be cool outside. Well we picked the perfect weather! Not a cloud in the sky and 65-70 degrees. We geared up for the ride and hopped on the A train all the way up to 211th street. We then got the bikes and our awesome headgear and headed off with our "Bike Map". Well we started out trip down the Hudson and long story short...I have not ridden a bike in some time and it. is. hard! We made it about 50 blocks down with beautiful scenery before it was time to turn around. After returning the bikes we made our way to Hill Country Chicken. Wonderful Sunday afternoon.

Now that we've gotten on the topic of weekends, what do you wear on the weekends? I usually wear gym clothes, hair up and no make up. But supposedly there is this idea of weekend wear. Wait? Actually putting on an outfit to run errands?! This is an idea I have never followed! But I guess it would make my weekends more chic. Instead of being grubby all weekend, I can look fabulous all weekend. But again that's not my style. My weekends are always about comfort, including everything I do (food, fun and clothes). Watching Project Runway on DVR last night the episode was about designing active wear for Heidi's new active wear line on Amazon.com (yes they repeated that it would be sold on Amazon.com so many times that I've become a commercial for it myself!) All the looks were so over the top for running around the city. Obviously active wear does not necessarily mean "go run on the treadmill", but these looks aren't active at all.

Alison Friday..."I'm going to wear my new dress tomorrow!"

Last weekend Alison and I went shopping at the usual neighborhood stores...last stop, Anthropologie. Well Alison had seen this dress a while ago and of course it was redonk $$. So I was like dude this will go on sale eventually...and what do you know, I spotted it last weekend on the sale rack. HIYO! This dress was knocked down to like 75% off! That my friends is what we call a steal. Originally a $300 something dress marked all the way down...someone knew we were coming in the store that day! Well Alison grabbed the dress and went to the dressing room. Next time I saw her, I think her exact words were "I'm going to live in this dress". The dress fit to a T and it was made for her. The colors are beyond gorg and match Alison's complexion and hair color. The colors work for both Spring and Fall...which is a BONUS! Nothing like wearing a dress all year round! So since it has gotten a little chilly, Alison threw on brown tights and brown suede knee high boots. In the summer/spring you could rock a sandal and in the winter, keep the boots and tights and add a sweater. This morning when she walked out of her room, I stopped her and said "Let me get a picture of you!" I felt like it was the first day of 5th grade! Then right before I snap..."Should I put my hand on my hip?" Oh heck yes you should put your hand on your hip, because guuuurl you look good! A few other questions she asked about styling were a) should I wear plain suede boots or these fun tan boots b) should I wear a necklace. To both of these I answered a) plain suede and b) no necklace. Sometimes you have to let the dress speak for it's self. If you over style with such a busy dress, it looks a little wonky. So what do you think? Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Thursday's Look

I've been wanting to wear this maxi dress, but never had the right styling pieces or gotten around to pulling it out of my closet. Well the only down sides to the dress are 1) it has quite a low back so wearing at work is a little inappropriate. So a jacket or sweater is a must. 2) it's verrrry long. I'm not quite sure why they left the hem so long on the dress. I literally have to belt it and fluff a bunch of fabric over the belt. I mean it doesn't look bad, in fact it needs a belt or else it's "hello no shape!" But I decided to pair the dress with a beautiful, lacy jacket. The jacket has a slight puff sleeve, asymmetrical zip, shawl collar and flounce at the back of the jacket. I also added a double wrap skinny black belt. I will say I hated the shoes I wore. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I'm on the hunt for black booties. Well the ones I have were my only option. They are very, let's just say "pilgrim" looking. They have a buckle across the arch of the foot followed by long tassels. Just think Columbus 1492! Haha I kid! They aren't that bad! But anywho, I thought the look was super cute but a little fussy for an all day outfit. The skirt kept getting caught on my heels and I was on constant "boob check" to make sure I wasn't showing too much! I will give this look a 10 on aesthetics but a 5 on wear ability! Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Alison's Thursday Look

So this morning Alison was looking SUPER cute! So I had to snap a photo and post it. She took a very vibrant printed skirt and kept it simple with her styling. The skirt has a teal/brown/white print. It could be hard to style with (other than a white top) but Alison did a great job! She added a blush colored blouse with soft detailing at the neck and sleeve. She added brown tights and brown slouchy booties. I thought this was a super fun look. Perfect to brighten up dull Fall colors. I find Fall and Winter to be a little dull because most colors are very earthy and not very bright. But I think this look is a great option to brighten up the Fall days. I feel I've started rubbing off on Alison! Love it or Hate it? Does this work?!

Ok maybe not hero, but I do love her. I think she is super chic and adorable. She seems to always look put together but nothing too fussy. She has great style and personality. I will admit that I now own all of her L.A. Candy books...they. are. amazing. DONE! I said it! But they are like the Hills/Gossip Girl/The City on crack, rolled into a book. Every book I've read of hers, I've finished in a weekend. But the reason for this post is, I'm super pumped for her new release, "Lauren Conrad: Style" It's her book all about fashion and style. Of course I understand that she is not the end all be all of fashion and styling, but I think she has a good eye and she is a normal all American girl. She's not looking to style the next miss thang, she's just giving some great advice and easy tips to follow for the everyday girl. I am going to run to the book store very soon to grab it!

So my challenge of posting once a day for a month is going GREAT! I've found that knowing I have to write a post gets me excited about getting dressed in the morning (bc I know I'll have to post a pic of what I'm wearing) AND it gets me writing. I've always loved writing but I've always been terrible at grammar! When you wake up in the morning and throw on some boring outfit to get you through the day, it doesn't get you excited and confident that your day will be great. But when I pull together a look that I feel great in and I'm proud to wear, it puts a little pep in my step! It's the ultimate coffee! A good outfit wakes you up and gives you that jolt of caffeine you need in the morning. What gets you out of bed in the morning? I also love blogging because it is a HUGE STRESS RELIEVER for me. It takes me to another place where I'm not stressed out and it lets my mind float and be imaginative. There's nothing like coming home from work to a quite, cool apartment. All the lights off, watching my DVR's from the night before in my sweats, and blogging. This is beyond relaxing and very much "Me" time. If you haven't found your form of "Me" time then I highly suggest you brainstorm for something. Fashion is my escape and this blog lets me dive into that world. Joining the Military...trend

Military is a big trend this season and I thought I'd try it on. I'm not sure if I'm ready for full blown uniform but a little touch of military sounds good. In this look for today, I featured my new jacket from...where else?! Anthropologie.

This jacket is a trickster...it is very light and not very heavy but still sturdy enough for the Fall temperature. It has a unique hem line with the sides being longer than the front and back. (I apologize that I look like a hunchback in the back pic...let's blame it on lighting haha) The front has hook and eye closure with lace covered buttons. The shoulders feature the classic military epaulets but in a very subtle way. Nothing too over the top but still makes a statement. With the jacket I wore a cream blouse from Urban. The back hem of the shirt has flounce detailing which peaked out from the bottom of the jacket. I wore skinny jeans and my brown booties. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

It has turned mighty chilly here in the city and I'm soaking it all in! This means tights, boots, sweaters, jackets and no more sweating! I love October! It's the month that everything Fall happens! Leaves turning, holidays beginning, crisp weather...and of course the cherry on top is SCARY MOVIES! Syfy and AMC are the channels to watch this month! Fear fest and 31 days of Halloween make my life complete.

While we were there a man with a camera approached us saying he had a blog and wanted to photograph us. Well little did we know that his blog is legit and really great! So I will start off by saying, I'M LOVING ALL THE COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK! I love hearing from people that read my posts! I feel the love! Keep it coming!

So this evening was relaxing....except for my cable being out and having to miss one of the best games for LSU! I heard it was a WILD ending! I ventured over to my friend Rachel's new apartment in Astoria, where we dined on local Thai food, baked cookies, watched recaps for LSU and watched Alabama whoop up on Florida. I must say these two teams are my ultimate rivals. I don't know who I hate less! Needless to say I was pulling for Florida to win = )

So the look for the night is...

I decided it was cool enough to break out the "Leatha" jacket. I wore it with a plaid, boyfriend fit button down shirt, skinny jeans and MY NEW BOOTS! One question for you...ARE YOU MAD I'M WEARING BLACK AND BROWN?! I feel like it's a total faux pas (or was) to wear black and brown. But I think it's totally ok. Otherwise it gets very matchy matchy, with my purse, jacket and boots all being one color. It changes it up and keeps it a little more casual. What do you think? Are you mad?!

I love these new boots! They are super comfy, unique and JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! I will say I am still on the hunt for a new pair of Black boots. Here is my dilemma with Black boots. The tend to

A) Black leather CAN look cheap, if you don't get a nice leather

B) Look a little strippery

C) Hard to find a pair that is not too "fancy"...I feel like Black boots have a hard time being

casual.

My sister and I ventured over to DSW today because I had found some online that I liked. But when I got there 1 of the pairs wasn't there and the other 2 looked...well...cheap. Then we walked past ALDO and I saw a pair that I liked. They were $140! Now don't get me wrong, I'd say $150 and up is an okay price for boots...but not from ALDO! Hope I don't offend anyone, but I'm just throwing this out there...ALDO's shoes tend to look like stripper shoes! They all have ridiculous heels and platforms! Not to mention the quality of the shoot/leather is not all that great, so $140 for an ankle boot kind of blew my mind. Anywho!

Fall is Calling

Fall is HERE! yahoo! Don't know about you but, I adore Fall. I think it's the best season for Fashion. But with Fall comes a ton of styles and looks. If you had to pick one trend this fall, what would it be? Mine would be outerwear and jackets. The best way to dress for Fall is separates. Skinny jeans, flowy tank, chunky sweater or detailed jacket, with boots=perfection.

Well for Fall I am focusing on jackets and the piece I'm loving right now is my new leather jacket! Or as I like to say "Leatha".

Are you dying right now?! Because I'm dead! I love. love. love. LOVE!

I love this jacket because it isn't your run of the mill leather jacket. It has a large shawl collar that makes for a dramatic feel, zipper details, and a soft sleek leather that makes a chic statement. It hasn't been quite cold enough to wear it yet, but once I do, I'll be sure to post a pic!

Rainboots...fashion do or fashion don't?

Oh hello monsoon! Monday morning...walk outside...and it's raining. Boooo! Or you wake up to the weather man being like "It's 100% going to rain today...your SOL!" Does anyone else find that when weathermen give their report they have a slight "haha you're screwed" kind of grin when forecasting the weather?! But anywho...onto the reason for this post. Rain boots! Are they a fashion do or don't?! Accessory or necessity?

Well today it is supposed to (I say supposed to...because I tend to not believe the weather man or weather.com) storm ALLLLL day! Fantastic! So I planned my outfit for the day around my rain boots. They are black and white houndstooth. Not going to lie, I feel like I am restricted to black and white clothes when I wear them, other wise they kind of clash.... that brings up a major head scratcher. Do you match your rain boots to your look to stay fashionable? Or just throw them on for practical reasons of staying dry? Well on my way to work I took a look around to the multitude of rain boots on the subway and at work. I'd say 90% of the women I saw had rain boots on. But the split between matching and not match rain boots to their look was interesting. I'd venture a guess that most people wear rain boots for necessity. With that being said, let's look at the different types of rain boots:

1. Hunter Rain boots: this is the Rolls Royce of rain boots. I feel like every girl either has them or wants them. They are super practical and get the job done. If you want a good, solid rain boot, then start saving your pennies for a pair of Hunters.

2. Designer Rain boots: So on my walk to work, I was walking behind this girl with really cute rain boots on! They were black with a little heel and flowers on the side. I was like omg super cute! But then I saw the classic CC on the toe. Wait! This chick has Chanel rain boots! Now don't get me wrong they were super cute! And if I had the moola to pay for Chanel rain boots then maybe I would rock some. But the only thing that came to mind when I saw the logo was..."this chick spent $$$ on boots that their only purpose is to get wet?! and only worn when raining?!" I guess maybe I'd rather use that money on something that's not meant to be splashed through puddles.

3. Short Rain boots: Now I understand that rain boots can get kind of muggy around your legs in the rain or they are a pain to truck around....but these rain boots that are short and look like regular shoes kind of blow my mind. Tall rain boots save you from puddles, sideways rain drenching your pants and save the hems of your pants from dragging in water. But these short rain boots...one step in a puddle and your whole foot is wet!! I don't get it.

4. Rain shoe covers: Now this is a look. You have to be in serious need of some rain cover to wear these suckers. I guess if you're not all about bringing extra shoes to change out of your rain boots, then these work....but honestly why spend money on these when you can use an old plastic bag duct taped to your calf!

5. Quirky Rain boots: I'm going to let these speak for themselves. Too much?!

Now no matter if you keep it simple or add some flare to you're rain boots...I'd say they are a good investment for those rainy walks to work.

All Buttoned Up

So...I decided to be adventurous this week and BUTTON THE TOP BUTTON ON MY SHIRT....

Yes I did it. I buttoned all the buttons on my shirt. Tried something new and I liked it! Sometimes you have to be adventurous and unconventional. So here's what I did...

I took my gingham button down shirt from J. Crew and added a fun statement necklace from Anthropologie. And yes that is a pearl encrusted octopus....I love anthro's quirky details! The main reason I tried buttoning this top button is because it has weird button placement on the placket. The button right below the top button is still pretty high and the button below that one, is pretty looooow. The girls would be out to play, and that's not HR compatible...if ya know what I mean! So what do you think?! I wore this with my cargo skinny pants and nude colored flats. I really wanted to bring the attention up the my face. Here are my inspirations...

This first look is from J. Crew. They buttoned the shirt to the top and add what looks like a modified bow tie! Super chic and unique. Adds that extra touch of style.

This next look is from Urban Outfitters. This example has more subtle styling. This is super prep but staying a little hipster.

The thing I love about all 3 of these photos is the tom boy/masculine styling but with a feminine touch. I think it's the woman's version of a man's shirt and tie. The "tie" in these photos is very girly...ie the necklace and ribbon bow tie. It's a little androgynous, but still girly. Maybe I'm crazy but I love it! Just trying to switch it up a bit. What would be your daring style choice?! Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Alison's Closet Revamp: Outfit 1

So on a recent post I talked about how we were cleaning out Alison's closet and going on a shopping spree. Well we are off to a good start! We cleaned out all that needed to go...there were some "What Not To Wear" moments. I won't go into details to spare Alison, but let's just say this revamp is LONG overdue! Love you Alison = )

So we are off to a good start on the closet, but the shopping spree is more of a light jog. Our first stop was Club Monaco. We need to build some great looks that would work for both work and everyday casual. Club Monaco I feel is often forgotten. It's got GREAT clothes that are always on trend, while mixing in those much needed classic pieces. I will say the store is pricey. It's teetering on overpriced. BUT, the quality is great, better than J.Crew in my opinion, and everything is very "right now". Few people know it's owned by Ralph Lauren, so it carries the same standards.

**Piece of advice when doing some serious shopping (not a random splurge):

1. Stay focused: remember the goal

2. Shop for full looks/outfits: don't buy random pieces because you'll end up buying things that you don't need or don't have items at home that will pair well

3. Looks that can mix/match: pants that can go back to 2 tops

4. Classic/Basic pieces

5. 1 Must Have: don't buy a load of must haves; save some for the next round. We are looking to bulk up a closet not splurge on everything

So for Alison's look:

Top: A cream, button down silk blouse. It's a boxy, cropped blouse that hits just at the top of the pants. Great if you want to make you legs look a mile long. Club Monaco

Pants: Pleated waist, ankle cropped pant. In a light cotton twill. The color is an army green (great way to add some color other than black or navy). The pants could be cuffed at the ankle or left alone. Club Monaco

Necklace: Long chain necklace double wrapped with stone embellishments (double duty necklace. Wear it long or doubled for a short look) Anthropolgie

Shoes: Mary jane inspired heel with contrasting color strap. Megan's Closet; FREE!

All these pieces can be used in other looks. Great basics, but current trends too!

Double Duty

How often do you run to your jewelry box and scream "I HAVE NO JEWELRY"... Because I know I do. Well I've been wanting to get some new items to add to my collection, but I just don't have the same buying power I used to. Every time I go to buy something, my "bank account angel and devil" show up on my shoulder and TORTURE me into not buying something. A simple ring that's 7.95 from Target gets put back on the shelf or that GORGEOUS, on sale, statement necklace from Anthro gets wish listed. Well, as much as the appeal of Forever 21's cheap jewelry (that usually breaks in one wear) is, I just can't justify spending money on cheap stuff. But at the same time, I can't buy nice (will last more than one wear) jewelry either. I'm caught in the middle of wanting new stuff but not wanting to pay for it. So here are my suggestions:

1. Raid your sister's/roommate's jewelry...now this could come with a "you can borrow it if you let me borrow ___" or "don't break it!" disclaimer. But often times some of the best finds are in the next room...plus it's free!

2. Check out your mom's old vintage 80's and 90's pieces. Or heirlooms passed down through the family! Going through grandparents attics can produce some one of a kind finds! I know about 50% of the stuff I have are finders keepers from my mom's stash.

3. Make your own. Yes I know, we are no longer 8 and can't really pull off macaroni necklaces or friendship bracelets, but let's bring those ideas to a more sophisticated level. Have some old charms or pendants that are just tarnishing away in your jewelry box? Well take some sewing thread, maybe in a fun bright pink or blue, and thread the old charm on there. Voila, you have a new necklace.

4. Use double duty pieces. For instance, take a necklace and wrap it around your wrist for a layering bracelet look. See the image above. That's what I did today. I added a gold necklace with feather and key dangling charms next to my watch. Then I took an amethyst stone necklace and wrapped it several times to add some color to my look. Who says you need to go buy a whole bunch of bracelets, when you can use your necklaces?

Well I know these ideas help me out on a daily basis. What do you think? Crazy and stupid? Or INGENIOUS?! I'm going to say the latter. What have you done to save a penny on jewelry? Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

My Task: Revamp my sister's closet

Mission: Create a GORG new wardrobe for my sis

Task: Buy all new clothes

Challenge: Stay in a budget (TBD), try and create looks around limited staple pieces, please my sis

So my sister and I are going to take on a summer challenge. She has always said how she hates her clothes and wants to get rid of everything and start from scratch...I jumped on that in a hot second. The chance to go shopping and not spend my own money?! I'm in. So we want to try and stay in a budget, which we have set yet, but at the same time have the freedom to get the things we need. Could be a challenge. We also want to try and buy maybe only 10 items and create looks that could last a whole month?! Anyone heard of the Clothes Diet? I don't know the exact name of it, but in a nutshell...you take 6 pieces and you can only wear those 6 things for a whole month. It makes you step back and really learn how to accessorize and style clothes with a limited supply. I would totally do it, but I would fail miserably! I can't even pack for a weekend trip without taking 30 outfits! I digress....so this weekend we are doing a massive clean out of her closet. I'm talking, everything goes!

SUMMER DRESSES--PRINTS

The easiest thing to throw on in the summer is a dress. Every girl I know has a "summer dress". And if not one, then several! From maxi's to mini's, every girl needs a summer dress. They allow air to flow on those hot days, they are easily thrown on and there's no need to think of an outfit. A dress is an outfit all in one. But why go buy a bunch of plain solid dresses when you can go for prints! Summer is a fun time and why not have some fun in your clothes! The way I see it is....if you have a solid color dress then you're going to need some accessories to jazz it up, but if you go for a print then all your work is done! No need to accessorize a crazy print dress...because you could end up looking gaudy and overkill! So I have collected a good amount of dresses over the years but these are by far my favorite summer dresses. They scream fun and make a statement all on their own! I'll start with my newest purchases and let me tell you I DIED when I saw them, tried them on, and bought them. AND! I will say that they were on sale for half the original price = )

First up: FROGS!

OMG! Don't you love the frogs! This dress is super figure flattering and cute! I feel like such a girl when I wear this dress. The dress features a double collar (one for laying flat while popping the top layer...because popping your collar isn't just for polos), a unique split shoulder strap, uneven hem, and gold button details...not to mention the frogs! From far away the print looks like flowers but then you do a double take a realize they are frogs! LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress!

Next: Elegant print with a little corset action

Did I say the last dress was girly? Because I meant this dress!!! If you want to feel beyond girly then this is the dress for you! It has a light layer of tulle under the skirt to give it that extra umf. And anything with tulle=frilly/girly. The print is gorgeous. It reminds me of a French Plantation or something. The colors melt together and are very flattering. The ties along the corset ribs and up the back make for a figure cinching, sexy look. The back of the straps is very unique and gives it that extra twist. I can't decide which of these two new purchases I like better...the frogs or this one. What do you think?!

On to: Rooster Calling

Oh hello Mr. Rooster! This rooster print is right up there on the crazy scale! But hey I'm a little crazy, so it works. This dress features a button up front, sweetheart neckline and a halter. I need to find a synonym for girly...because this dress also falls into the girly category!

Next: Bulldogs

So I've been wanting a puppy, but it's a little unrealistic right now...so can this be my new puppy?! I think this is such a whimsical dress. As they all are! But this bulldog print is so quirky. The dress is a button up shirt dress with ribbon to tie at the waist. Talk about comfy! There's no tightness, halter pulling on your neck or corset poking at your ribs! It is easy breezy and can easily be dressed up or dressed down. Worn in the summer or in the winter. Def a very versatile dress! More bang for your buck!

Last but certainly not least: Elephants on Parade!

I'm going to wrap up this zoo of prints with my elephant dress. This dress features elephants all over...it's like they're on parade! The dress is mainly white with huge pops of royal blue. There's so much detail in this fabric that it's like a painting in itself! I love that it's so delicate, yet makes a bold statement with the elephants.

Well that concludes the tour of Megan's summer dresses. I can't decide which one is my favorite...what do you think?! Love or hate any of these? It takes a certain person to pull off rooster or frog, but I am up to the task.

Ok so apparently I fell off the face of the earth... So sorry I haven't posted in a decade, but no worries I am back and have high hopes that I will post at least once a week.

So here we are half way through Summer....wait, I'm sorry did I just say half way?! Holy moly where has the time gone. Well I've always had a love hate relationship with summer. It's a great time to be carefree, travel, have fun and be with friends...but at the same time, it's a great time to sweat your balls off. Pardon the reference to balls....but really?! In heat like this, it's an accurate statement. So it's really no surprise to me that I've let summer pass me by, because to be honest it's not my cup of tea. Here is summer in a nutshell....

1. If you're not 11, then it's kind of weird to go swimming in a pool--so that's out
2. If you're not in school, then the term summer is irrelevant, because you don't get a break. Your summer consists of maybe a couple of Fridays when you don't have to drag your butt to work.
3. You wake up to a refreshing 75 maybe 80 degrees and think "oh it's not so bad out..." Then by lunch time it has magically soared to 90+ degrees and you might as well be sitting on the sun.
4. If you have a car: you have to either ride with your windows down for the entire car trip, go start your car and hour before you need to leave to get it cooled off and waste precious gas, or grin and bare it by riding in a heat box with 80 degree AC blowing on you while your skin melts to your leather seats. If you ride the subway/walk: NYC subway in the summer...enough said!
5. It comes and goes as fast as Christmas and all your left with is a 2nd degree sunburn and a bunch of pictures from your family beach vacay.

But now that you know how I feel about summer...get excited for my next post = ) SUMMER DRESSES!

So it's a long weekend...you know what that means...nothing! haha I never have plans for long weekends. I'd rather just run around carefree and relax. If I have too many plans I get stressed out and the weekend ends up flying by! Well yesterday Alison and I decided to be adventurous and head over to Chelsea and check out the Marketplace....I'll say it is a very interesting place. The main draw was the new Anthropologie store! You'll see pictures throughout the post. I will say I liked this location...but it's not my fave. It was

very spacious and well lit. The huge windows allowed a lot of light to shine in making everything light up. There was also great attention to detail of how the store was set up. Everything had a certain location and it all made sense. I will say that this location had a great accessories assortment. Also, I loved the home section/kitchen section. It felt very "homey" without being over done. It was well organized and easy to locate items. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing "Where's Waldo" in the store but not this location.

They also had really unique displays and furniture. One new thing I noticed this store offered was one of kind/vintage dresses. There was a single rack close to the entrance that held about 15 dresses. They were all very unique and AMAZING! They were one of a kind pieces. The only down side was the sizing was crappy and they were mucho $$. There would be a size 2 or maybe a size 6....so if you loved a dress and you weren't a size 2 then you couldn't get the dress. The sale section was great....but very cramped. Not surprising for Anthropologie.

The other cool thing about this location was it had a very industrial and warehouse feel. As you can see in this before picture...the space is very open and industrial. I really liked that about this location. I actually walked in and didn't buy anything...I was shocked! I did find a dress on sale that I love...but decided to pass. Wait...was that me? Did I really go in and pass on a dress that I love on sale for $40???!! I must not be feeling well! But anywho. I think the new location is really cool and next time I need a long walk, I can head towards this destination! Since we had walked all that way, we decided to check out the rest of the Marketplace. Let's chalk it up to interesting. It's a long hallway that winds around and features all kinds of shops. The interior of this place is quite dark with cherry wood floors and cement walls. The shops located within range from Thai food to Basket shops. They offer all kinds of food. Sit down and dine restaurants, with one of a kind menus or run in and grab it to go. They also have Jacques Torres chocolate shop, bakeries, Lobster market, meat market, gelato, book store, and a whole boat load of other options...even a Hale and Hearty...RANDOM! This place is a tourist trap for sure! Indoor food and shopping (less on the shopping side) with many places being cash only. It was super crowded and full of tourists. Overall, this place was cool but not that convenient or special. If you feel like dodging tourists, paying cash and trying to pick a lunch menu from all the random shops...then this place is for you!

The $10 Look

So I will openly admit that I hate Tuesday's more than Mondays...reason being there is nothing good about Tuesday. At least Monday is a fresh start to a week! But all I can say is this Tuesday was better than most thanks to this $10 skirt! Oh yes, that's right, $10! And where is it from you ask?! All together now...ANTHROPOLOGIE! I know, surprise surprise...Megan shops at Anthropologie. But you know what I like it...and that is that! So yes, last Tuesday I mentioned that Anthro was having their huge sale...and this was the pick of the litter. And for $10 bucks...I would say this is the steal of the century. It's a hot pink, tulip style skirt with different colored buttons sporadically placed on the skirt. It is super comfy, sexy and very flattering. Now usually I steer away from the color pink, but when it is a loud and crazy pink like this, I rock it. I added a white, printed top from French Connection. This shirt alone can make me look as big as a house, but I think it added great volume to the skirt. A great balance for the slimming, tulip skirt. For shoes I added my Nine West gladiator heels. I've had these shoes for a while now, but somehow it feels like I'm still breaking them in! Jewelry I kept really easy with floral stud earrings. With such a statement piece for the skirt, you can't steal it's thunder by adding a whole bunch of jewelry. So overall I think this look was super cute and perfect for a casual/dressed up work outfit. So what do you think? Was it worth $10??? Love it or hate it? Does this work?

My New Love

So as you all know, the blowout sale at Anthropologie was this past Tuesday! Well Hilary and I went... let's just say it wasn't THAT great. There were a lot of items on sale...but nothing I was itching to buy. But I did score a skirt for $9.95...HECK YEAH! I'm sorry, but for all those people out there that say Anthropologie is too $$...well this just goes to show, you can get some good deals! I've always said Anthropologie's sales are AMAZING! Well since the rest of the sale was a little lack luster...I skipped around the rest of the store "just to browse"...well needless to say I came across my new love!

These heels are so freaking cute! They are a mix of wedge/sandal/clog. I've been wanting to try out the new clog trend, but I was too scared to dive right in. I think this pair hits all the right notes! They are a great neutral color that will go with pretty much everything! I wore them today with skinny jeans and a floral blouse. I think they will look great with dresses and skirts. I've been looking for a new pair summery shoes and I think these fit the ticket! What do you think? Does this work?

We all know blogging has exploded onto the scene. There are blogs out there about anything under the sun. It's a huge tool for self expression. I never used to read blogs but I am now hooked and have a running list that I check everyday. Well the other day I was doing some online shopping...more like gawking...and came across Free People's blog. BLDG 15. I'm taking a guess here but I believe the name comes from the office number of Free People. The blog is super cool. Free People exudes self expression and freedom. Everything is carefree and surrounds itself with music inspiration. The blog is super cool. It covers interesting photo shoots and inspirations, How-To posts on wearing layering pieces, and the most recent post is about the Creative Director's home. It follows her home from beginning stages to fully furnished and decorated. It's pretty cool seeing that from start to finish. If you love Free People's clothes then take a look at their blog! Thursday's Look

Thursday was a GORGEOUS day! 70 and sunny...can it stay this way forever?! I thought I'd bust out my new denim shorts...yes that's right folks, Megan sported some shorts. I love these shorts because they hit my leg at a flattering level and I don't feel like my thighs are on display.

I was channeling J.Crew with this look. I had a white ruffled tank under a light weight gingham button down. I added a braided belt and my summer wedges.

For jewelry I layered 3 different necklaces. One short necklace with circle design, a medium length key and feather necklace and a long necklace with clear stone.

I love this look because it is casual and fun for the spring season. Does this work?! Love it or Hate it?

Tuesday's Look

Oh Tuesday...you are my Monday. At least Monday is a start to a new week! Tuesday has nothing good about it...except maybe Glee and this outfit!

This is what I wore on Tuesday. It gave a very spring airy feel. I wore my J.Crew linen pants with a tan striped tee. It was a bit nippy out so I threw on this navy crocheted cardigan. To add some umph and I wore my Rope necklace from Anthro and super tall wedges from...wait for it...PAYLESS! That's right, good things can come at cheap prices. I've had these wedges for like 4 years and they are 1. the most comfy and 2. go with everything!

I'm so glad I no longer have to wear bulky clothes because SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Today it is a glorious 71 degree clear sky day! Bring on the weekend!

Denim on Denim--The Good, Bad and Ugly

So a topic of conversation here in the office recently was..."Is denim on denim ok?" And "What's the best way to wear it?" Well here is my view on it....I don't hate it! But it is all how you pull it off. If you look like you just stepped off the 90's bus as a member of Saved by the Bell, then you and I need to have a talk...

Since denim is such a trend right now, it can be very confusing how to wear it. Here are some tips and my advice on the denim rage right now.

Here are some great Denim shirt options. They make great staple pieces in your wardrobe. Pair them with a floral skirt, white cropped pants, jeans, or slouchy linen trousers. But what are you willing to spend on this new trend? There are a million options out there...and many look the same but have very different prices. For instance here are my picks for a denim shirt:

All four of these are great options....can you guess where they are from or how much they retail for? Man if I didn't pick these images myself, I'd have a hard time choosing. Well all three unrecognizable images are from gap and the 2nd from the right is J.Crew. All great options, not only in color but in price. The J.Crew shirt is $98, while the one to the left of it is only $59.50...almost half the price of J.Crew. That's a head scratcher, because they look the same to me. The other two range from $54-59. They also offer different washes. There's the Chambray on the left, and Light Chambray and Indigo on the right. All colors serve a different purpose. The question is...how much would you spend? $98 for J.crew or $59 for Gap? Where are your standards?

Now these images are from runway shows....really? Desingers are having a hayday with denim...from denim on denim looks to overalls...yes I said overalls (Ralph Lauren Spring 2010!!!) Hey designers, the 90's called, they want their clothes back. Ba Dom Ching (drum)! I don't hate these looks on the runway and there is something nostalgic about denim. How do you feel about these looks?

Now these two looks above I feel do a good job of pulling off the denim on denim look. You have to work with different washes of denim when wearing them together. If you have a dark jean then add a light chambray shirt or jacket. Vice versa. You don't want to go with one wash all over your body....aka denim overload. It's all about how you style it. Add some other elements to the look. Maybe add a striped tank under the chambray shirt to add some color and interest. It will also break up the denim so it's not so solid. Add a bright colored shoe to catch the eye. Always keep it relaxed and casual...nothing too tight or structured.

I hope this helps and gives you something to think about. Try it out and see what works for you. Denim is here to stay for a long time and the styling will continue to change. Who knows what will be next....I mean we already have "Jeggings"...barf. I enjoyed our Denim 101 talk and now I leave you with this....

Must Haves

Spring and Summer are upon us people! It hit 90 degrees yesterday...HOLY COW! But leave it to New York weather to drop back to 60 degrees this weekend. But you know what...I don't care! I'm still sporting my spring summer looks. I have some must haves that will get me through this season...and they are MUST HAVES! I have officially started a post it at my desk with all the things I want. It is a 3in x 3in yellow square that holds everything I love. It stares me in the face everyday, like the last doughnut left in the office kitchen. Tempting and taunting me. But I'm now posting it here so everyone can enjoy the list!

1. TOMS shoes. Enough said. I have one pair that I bought from Rugby and they have been the best shoes. Only down side I have found, is they break in really fast. When I first bought them, I swear someone snuck marshmallows into my shoes because I was walking on straight up cushion. It was like miniature pillows in my shoes....but then about a week later those pillows slowly faded. They are still comfy but they have lost that loving feeling. I am in search for another pair. The ones I have are navy and yellow striped, so fitting them into a look can be challenging. I want a more neutral pair for the summer. TOMS shoes not only are great shoes, but they send a great message. For those of you that don't know, today is "One Day Without Shoes". It's a campaign for people to not wear shoes today, to feel what most kids in the world feel everyday. Great company!

2. Oh cheese and rice it's swimsuit season. Can burlap sacks please become a trend right now? I kid, I kid. Every girl I know, and don't try and deny it, HATES swimsuit season. It's the reminder that we can no longer skip shaving, skip the gym, or basically eat! BUT, I think I have found the best swimsuit option for all you swimsuit haters. This suit is from Anthropologie and is a god send. It has a fun, bright colored pattern (great distraction), sexy bandeau top, and high waisted/brief cut short. This is the polar opposite to the string bikini. Hey if you got the guts to strut it out in a string bikini, then get it girl...but for those of you like me who want to cover it up yet stay sexy, this is a great option. It gives a very retro feel and I love it! I will avoid all swimsuit needed situations...but if needed, this will be purchased with complete confidence!

3. This cover for J.Crew's April catalog is just pure beauty. I don't really have anything to say about it other than gorgeous! If anything screams Spring, this is it.

4. Let's start with this A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E dress from where else but Anthropologie. This is the epitome of a summer BBQ/Crawfish boil dress. It is the Salty Seas dress at $138. This would be the perfect frock to wear at the next BBQ you have. It has lobsters all over it, embellished with black straps for a contrast and a decorative pleat at the back. This is getting Wish-listed as we speak. Every girl needs a fun, quirky summer dress.

5. I love the way this dress is styled! It makes a great option for a strapless dress. Especially for work. You know that cute strapless dress you bought you've been wanting to wear to work, but you know strapless doesn't scream professional....then throw a crew neck tee underneath and it creates a whole new look and feel. If the dress is too fancy for a picnic in the park or a summer pool party, then add the tee or tank and it dress it down in a second. I also love the chunky pearl necklace. I am on a hunt for the perfect metal necklace. I want to be chunky but not look like a dog collar. I think the chunky, thick necklaces pumps up a dainty dress or flowy top. If things get too girl and pretty, then add an industrial like necklace to grunge it up a bit.

6. Shorts....my arch nemesis. Really, god did not make my thighs for shorts. Straight up they don't look good on me. Especially those cut off jean shorts that are so short the pockets are showing. I mean come on? Really? That looks good? No. It. Does. Not. Sorry (Gilly's voice haha). But these shorts above are a great option! They hit at a great spot on the thigh. Not too long and not too short. They have a very slouchy, boyfriend feel. Nothing fancy, just relaxed. I will be purchasing these asap. They are from Ann Taylor Loft...only like $50. Oh and for those of you who love the Loft, they are having an additional 25% off sale items!

7. This is an absolute must this season. Go ahead and save me a spot on the Great Lawn in Central Park. When you think of NYC and Summer, you think of picnics and laying out in Central Park. It's the best thing to do in the city during the summer that doesn't involve money. However, if you're looking for a quite picnic location...then this is not the place for you. The great lawn is all about hundreds of people laying out, throwing the Frisbee and endless blankets covered with food. I've already got my picnic basket packed...too soon? Nah = )

8. Now this has nothing to do with fashion...but who cares, this is my blog! For Christmas I got a new Canon SLR camera and needless to say, I'm less than perfect with my picture taking. I really want to grab the bull by the horns and become a amateur photographer. So I'm thinking of purchasing this Dummies book to help me out. Because we all know the user manuals that come with the camera are so jam-packed with gibberish that they might as well be in Chinese. I know I won't become the next Nigel Barker but at least I will know more than how to turn the thing on = )

9. I love this new series of books out there. They've taken classic books and remade the covers so they are more unique and make your bookshelves more stylish/aesthetically stimulating. If you purchase all of the books, then it makes for a very cool look on your bookshelves. I personally love this Alice and Wonderland version. This is available on Anthropologies website, but I have also seen them in Barnes and Noble. Now when I go to Central Park I have a stylish book to read!

10. Last but not least....PINKBERRY! I have been hibernating from pinkberry all winter, but Spring and Summer is the best time for pinkberry. If you haven't tried pinkberry, then you need to stop reading this, go find a store, and indulge yourself! My poison: Pomegranate with mangos and yogurt chips. Yes please! Now they offer cones and they have added more...shall we say less healthy topping options. It used to be all fruit and healthy snacks, but now they have candy, cookies and even cheesecake. Summer in the city would not be the same without pinkberry!

Slide into Spring

This week has been out of this world beautiful! We have officially moved into spring. 70 degree weather, clear blue skies and warm sunshine. But how do you dress in this kind of weather?....Well the solution is light layers. When it is warm and sunny outside, but a cool wind, it makes it hard to know what to wear. Do you wear a jacket? Tights? Short sleeves? Sweaters? Well here is my transition outfit. I chose a spring floral skirt, with a embellished tank. I knew this would be chilly to wear, so I added tights, boots and a cardigan. This was the perfect outfit for a sunny day. When I was walking to work I was cool but not cold. At my lunch break it had warmed up enough to sit outside. I simply took off my cardigan and soaked in some rays. The key to dressing in spring weather is smart layering. If you go heavier in layering on one end, go lighter on another. For instance, pair a skirt with a sweater. Another way to stay warm but still look like spring is to bring floral prints and bright colors to your wardrobe. I think spring is hands down my favorite season. It's not too hot and not too cold. Just perfect. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Spring Summer Trends....really?

So we are officially coming up on Spring and Summer. You know what that means...no more layering = ( I personally love winter because you can layer as much as you want or as little as you want. But with Summer, you wear as little as possible so you don't die of heat exhaustion. This also means stinky subways and girls wearing close to nothing. I know it's hot but I don't need to see EVERYTHING!

But after reading through WWD's fashion week articles and looking at trend reports, there are some great, and not so great trends coming up for Spring/Summer. Here is where I stand on some....

Sign me up!

1. Deconstruction--especially on blouses. I think it brings something fun to a top and can also make for a great statement piece.

2. Knotting--either on skirts or tops. My sister recently bought an amazing dress that at first glance was a simple, boat neck, shift dress...but then she turns around and there's an exaggerated knot at her lower back. GORGEOUS!

3. Lower heels--I don't know about you, but my feet can no longer stand the hooker heels stores sell these days. Five minutes and I'm walking with a limp. But these lower heels will make it easy to wear heels without the sacrifice of your ability to walk.

4. Statement necklaces--these are still going strong from previous seasons...but they are getting bigger! I personally love a great necklace. It can totally change an outfit with just one item.

5. Ruffles--I was recently told I dress very girly...my immediate response was "No way...really?!" But thinking about it I really do! Not in the wear pink and sport flowers on all my clothes sort of way, but I do love a very feminine look.

6. Vintage--I will have to say this one I love, but I feel like EVERYONE is in to vintage things these days. Whether it be vintage clothes, weddings, jewelery or even furniture. I hope this doesn't become overkill and get played out. But right now, I'm digging it.

Really? This is fashion?

1. Bras--yes that's right bras and crop tops are coming back. Now I guess I am a bitter betty, because if you do have the bod to rock a bra or crop top go ahead...but I'll keep mine under wraps.

2. Quick removals--okay really? Yes you are correct, "quick removals" refers to fashion pieces such as bras, underwear, and silk robes worn as everyday wear. I'm not looking forward to people straight up walking the streets in lingerie...nope, no thanks.

3. Pinstripes-- I know Ralph Lauren has done some great pinstripe looks in the recent seasons...but I'm on the fence for this one. Here is what I asked my sis...

"Alison, what's the first word or person that comes to mind when I say pinstripes..."

"Chuck Bass, suit or Gomez Addams!"

Yes that's right, Gomez Addams, as in the dad on The Addams Family. Not a good thing. And Chuck Bass?! I do love me some Chuck, but we all know how pinstripes have thrown up on his wardrobe. I just feel they exude a very manly, boring and serious vibe. But hey I'm not totally thumbs down on this one.

4. Hot Pantaloons--no comment...

5. Organza Outerwear--Apparently 1992 called and said Organza outerwear is back. I'm going to say no. The only thing that comes to mind is Meryl Streep's outfit when she gets pushed down the staors in "Death Becomes Her". Anyone know what I'm referencing?! Hope so!

Well that's where I stand on those trends. I give most Spring/Summer trends a thumbs up but a good hand full get a huge thumbs down.

I find something new to look at each time I go on the site. It is truly my addiction. If Anthropologie were a drug....I might need "Intervention" to come in and save me! The Tie

So why are ties only for men? I feel like they could totally work for women's wear. Well I'm going to jump on that band wagon! I think it brings a funky edge to a girly look. Now we want to stay away from the prep school look or anything too rigid/masculine. You need to have fun with an item like this. For this look I focused on the tie and worked out from there. I chose this buffalo check tie that is great for the holiday season. Since the colors are pretty bold, I stayed neutral on the other elements of the look. I decided to wear the tie with a white button down shirt and a black, cable-knit sweater. To add some feminine flair to this outfit I added an A-line, silver skirt, black tights and knee high boots. Man that was a good nap! Oh yes, that's right kids I'm back and ready to talk about these Fall/Winter fashions that are happening right now! Let me just start off by saying I LOVE WINTER CLOTHES! So many more options to choose from! And who doesn't love to layer. So since I have been MIA and you are all craving my fashion opinions...don't laugh!...I'm going to start off the season with "The 10 things I want for Christmas" and the "Coal in my stockings"

I want:
1. TIGHTS! --These suckers, although not very comfy for sitting at a desk all day, save my life during winter. There are so many selections/colors that I commit an entire dresser drawer to tights = ) They are perfect for those days when you want to wear a skirt but you might get frost bite.
2. Skinny Cords--Cords are the new jeans. They are just as comfy/functional but give things a little flair! WARNING: wearing cords may result in a "swishing" sound = )
3. Leggings--I'm on a search for the perfect pair. It'll be like finding the Holy Grail! I like leggings only if you have a top that covers your badonkadonk! Ladies, if you got some junk in the trunk, then the "leggings as pants" is not the look for you. But I do love a great legging with a boot or flat.
4. Hooded Scarf--Oh yes they do exist and I own one. Probably the best buy of the season. It's a two-for-one kind of fantastic!
5. Ankle boots--Love this look with a knee high sock or tights.
6. Embellished jackets--Now I know when it's cold outside, the last thing you worry about is fashion, you just want to be warm. But hey why not get a great jacket that is cute and functional. Why spend a lot of money on a jacket if it is waaawaaa. Spice up the cold with some details on your jacket.
7. Leather--A quality leather jacket is a great asset to any closet. It can be rocked out in a causal outfit or dressed up for the night out.
8. Sweater dresses- What better way to stay warm but look girly! There are a variety of sweater dresses out there to choose from. You can't go wrong with a great sweater dress, pair of tights and great boots.
9. Chunky knits--Let's bundle up folks! Chunky knits, whether it be scarves or sweaters, are a great look this season. They bring volume to a look and let's face it keep you warm. I would suggest steering clear of any other voluminous clothing while wearing big knits.
10. Novelty Sweaters--Oh that's right, they are no longer just for "Ugly Christmas Sweater" parties. They evoke the holiday spirit. Who doesn't love a big sweater with reindeer on it!

No Thanks:
1. Short Sleeved/3/4 inch Jackets- Really? What purpose does a jacket serve if it doesn't cover your arms...isn't that one of the main functions of a jacket? Well for all you armless jacket people out there, I'll be the one not freezing my arms off. Thanks!
2. Jeggings--I'm on the fence for this one. I'm intrigued, but only by black jeggings. The acid wash or regular color jean jeggings...really? Man there's nothing better than skin tight, painted on jeans. Oh hello sarcasm.
3. Overalls--hmmmmmm let me go back to 1989 and pull out my pair of osh-kosh so I can fit in with the fashionistas of 2009. No thanks.
4. The color trend of purple--Now don't get me wrong, I love purple, but only when it's linked to the TIGERS! Other than that I don't wear the color that often. It's a hard color to pull off if you don't have the right shade for your skin/hair color. I would stick to deep or light purples if you feel the need to channel Barney! Again I'm not hating on purple people, it's just not my slice of pie.
5. Ripped/Distressed clothing--Don't mind me, I just don't see the logic in paying for something that's torn... I'm always the girl trying to get a discount for torn/ "damaged" merchandise, so I'm not about to pay full price for "distressed" clothing = )

Fashion Dilemma: The boyfriend

So...these days people are body obsessed. A gym membership is numero uno on many priority lists. Enter the boyfriend look. I have a love hate relationship with this current trend. The boyfriend look is supposed to be a little grungy/slouchy. Well this poses some pros and cons....

Some of the pros are this look is very "ready to go!" You can throw it on and run out the door and look sassy. Also, it's pretty much like wearing pjs. Everything is very roomy and cozy. No need to fuss over anything. And for those out there that are feeling a little "less than hot" or "bloaty", then this is the perfect look to cover it up. There is nothing form fitting about this look. Everything hangs loose and very casual. This is where my cons rain on the parade. If we are constantly wearing clothes that don't fit our bodies, we lose our bodies. The baggy clothes (in my opinion) are not flattering for our bodies and can make us look bigger than needed. Face it ladies...as much as we loathe our bodies some days, we have curves...embrace them = ) Don't you feel good when you have a cute, form fitting dress on? or skinny jeans with a floral tank? Well we lose this when we cover it all up. So after all of this...I broke down and bought a boyfriend style, plaid, button down from Gap. Now going back to everything being very baggy, I picked up a medium and it was big enough to fit K Fed's new body...if you haven't seen pics lately, it looks like he ate one too many big macs. So I got home and put together an outfit....it looked terrible! I lost all my shape and looked, let's just say it, FAT! So I had to think of a quick fix...I thought the vest would cinch the waist. It kept the boyfriend look but with some feminine flirt! Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Flying Away

This look might be one of my favs this summer! I took a bird design skirt and added a white tank and vest to it. The white tank has ruffles at the neckline to give it a little something extra. I also added a thick, braided belt to help mesh the line between skirt and tank. The shoes I kept simple with white flip flops, although I could dress it up a bit with a fun wedge. This was a perfect summer outfit. Light and breezy. Love it or hate it? Does this work?

Ok so I hope you understood my title?! Sing it to the rhythm of Hip-Hop-Hooray-Ho! Haha...anways, back to the clothes! For this look I took this chambray top and paired it with a white, cropped jean. This top could work as a reeeally short dress or a longer shirt. I am not so daring to wear it as a dress, but hey more power to ya if you can! It is out of this world comfy and very versatile. This time around I added my Fleur de lis scarf and summer wedges. This outfit was perfect for work and then out for dinner and drinks. You could always keep the shirt and pant the same but change it up with different scarves, jewelry or shoes. I will have to do another "1 shirt...6 ways" soon! Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Flower Power

For this look I went with this floral pattern tee. I love t-shirts that have a fun design because it's an easy excuse to wear a t-shirt! With this tee I used my khaki harem pants. I left the shirt tucked out this time. For shoes I wanted to add a little more to the look....so I wore my FAVORITE sandals of the summer. The thong part of the sandal is metallic gold and the back of the sandal is a light pink/coral suede that ties around the ankle! I love them so much! They are def a statement sandal and a fun way to add color to an outfit. Does this work? Love it or hate it?

Look 1: I added a white button up, cargo shirt. To add a little spunk I used a yellow and red design bow tie...

Look 2: I added a blue and white pinstripe vest and a Fleur de lis scarf. Also with this I added some red converse to push it into the tomboy category.

I love making pretty things more edgy, dirty, or boyish. For this look I took this gray tee with white embellishment and paired it with a satin tiered skirt. This shirt I have blogged about before. It is very, "whoa! what's that on your shirt?!", which I love. The random design gives this plain tee a boost of crazy. It is a little out there and edgy, so I put it with this satin skirt. The skirt is a pencil, mid thigh, tiered skirt. The two together make a very sophisticated look, while staying edgy and girly. The shoes I added a ballet flat with bow detail. I was wearing this to work so adding a heel might have been a little much, so I made it a little more casual with the flat. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

And I'm back! Here is a look from a few weeks ago. I wanted to work with one color: Tan. What do you think? Too blah? Well I took this striped tee from Gap and paired it with a pair of khakis. The khakis are a modified version of the Harem pant. The Harem pant is a tough look to pull off. I believe you have to have just the right body or outfit to really nail the style. I know I don't have the body for those pants but I wanted to try out the trend. These pants from Gap (a part of the designer collections at gap) are a great way to try out the harem look. They have pleats at the waistline that give a little volume without the "I pooped in my pants" look. I tucked in the tee and added a braided belt. The shoes I kept simple with my white shell flip flops. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Not going to lie, it's pretty much amazing!! A lot of the clothes are a little pricey but they also have some H&M, American Eagle and other affordable stores. Campy? Cargo? Safari?

So I couldn't decide how I felt all day wearing this outfit...was it campy? cargo? no I think safari! The skirt is from J. Crew and has some cargo detailing on the pockets. It also has a pleat in the front creating a vent making the skirt easier to move in. With the skirt I paired a graphic flower tee. It is from American Eagle on super sale. I think it was $9.99! The feminine flowers on the shirt balance out the cargo skirt. I added a thick braided belt and my summer wedges! This outfit was another perfect summer outfit. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Oh yes, do not fear the maxi ladies! It is a keeper! Beyond comfy and another plus, is you don't have to shave your legs for this dress = ) And.......IT'S FROM TARGET! HELLO money saver! For trends like this, don't go spend $50+ on a dress that might not make it next season. This sucker I think was like 19.99 or 29.99. Either way...it's a steal! Very comfy and summer friendly! Although, it gets very hot under the long skirt, so be prepared for some sweaty legs! I paired this dress with a white/khaki striped cardigan and my Nine West sandals. The jewelry I kept simple with gold studs. I highly suggest investing in the maxi! Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Ok for this look, I focused on the tee. It is from J. Crew and is super comfy! It has a design on the chest created from silk fabric that has been manipulated to form a circular design. It has small little stones randomly placed on the silk as well for a very fancy effect. The tee stands out on it's own so I thought I would keep the pants simple. I chose a linen khaki pant with drawstring waste. Not going to lie these pants feel like you're wearing pjs! They are super comfy and moveable. Perfect for work! The shoes I chose are my summer wedges that you will probably be seeing very often. They are a platform sandal with wicker heel. They are from Payless and I have had them for years now. This outfit was hands down one of the most comfy outfits I've ever worn! Jewelry I kept simple with a pearl bracelet and studs. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

Here I wore a red and blue "reefy" dress with white cardigan. It's from Anthropologie and the cardigan is from Express. The dress is actually strapless but it has detachable straps. Since I wore this to work I figured I should put them on. With the dress I kept it very casual and added a pair of flip flops with shell detailing. These flip flops are from Target and I've had them for like 5 years now!! The whole look has a very beachy/ islandy feel with the shells and colors. The necklace is a vintage piece from my mom's closet! I love this necklace because it goes with pretty much everything. Love it or Hate it? Does this work?

ANTHROPOLOGIE....

This store makes my heart race and my mind go wild! I LOVE THIS STORE...wait did I mention I happen to like this store? It is my mecca! Ok...so I'm sure everyone just thought "But everything is so expensive..." I do agree on some levels. The T-shirt that is $300...yes is a little over priced. But when you go to J. Crew or Banana or anywhere else they have some over priced stuff too. Here are my reasons for my inappropriate obsession with Anthro...

1. Everything is unique! I can walk into any old J. Crew or Urban Outfitters or Macy's and find the same old trends. Something I could find at one store, I could find at another. Well this store has all the trends in their own unique way. Everything is different and very creative. They take a simple blouse and add detail upon detail upon detail.
2. You get your money's worth. I would venture to say that a blouse from Anthro has up to 6 details on it. May it be a trim, a zipper, hem, beads, fringe, appliques, pockets, ties, flowers...I mean the list goes on and on. This is how I justify paying $80 + bucks for a top. Look at it this way, J. Crew has tops at that same price level, but are plain, detail-less, and solid color. I mean no judgement, I shop there too = )
3. The store alone is awesome. I always feel at home in this store. Everything is very "Romantic Wilderness" haha (jab at Alison)
4. Unique designers
5. Sales! OMG if you have not experienced Anthro's sales, then you have missed out on the world! They have THE BEST SALES! $158 dresses down to $40! I mean really?! That's fan-freakin-tastic! You must go check out their sale items because it is well worth it!
6. The styling withing the store. Everything on display is styled so creatively. It makes me want to take some tips and re-vamp my whole wardrobe.
7. Compliments: I would say 85% of the time that people compliment what I am wearing, it is Anthro. The immediate reaction is "omg that's super cute! I love that store!" My point is pretty clear I think. Anthro's clothes stand out!
8. Accessories! I could accessorize my life with Anthro accessories alone. Everything is whimsical, but also classy. They have your statement pieces and also very classy pieces.
9. I want a house strictly so I can decorate it with Anthro home decor. They have everything you could possibly need...down to light bulbs!
10. The main reason I love this store is because it is the epitome of my style. If I had to sum up my style in one word it would be Anthro. It exudes romance! Words that come to mind: class, fresh, creative, beauty, unique, humorous, well rounded, etc...

Well I will stop at 10 reasons for my crush on Anthro. I just think it's awesome! You might think, "she must have a lot of money to shop there because everything is so pricey"....but I don't have a lot of dough! Or you might think "she must be broke from shopping there"... and yes, yes I am! haha But at least I will be well dressed when I go flat-broke! Hope you have enjoyed! Ok....picture this...
You're walking to spin class and you are amped up for a ride that will soon be chased with an Aleve or 2. You set up your bike and start warming up. The girl in front of you (or better yet, "in front" means if I lean far enough forward it's ass in face) gets on her bike and does the same. You've started the class and breaking a sweat, when the instructor tells you to crank up your resistance and climb that hill. Well... you look down at your resistance, debate how hard you want work and turn it up a notch, only to look back up and it's THONG city! The chicka in front of you decided to sport a thong today and her pants have decided to take a break and slide down her butt. FANTASTIC! Now for the rest of class you have to stare at this girl's backside, her thong and the sweat that is dripping down. Reallllly?! A thong at the gym?! I don't know about you but I can't do that! Who wants a permanent wedge when they're working out? I don't! For one it's uncomfortable for me and 2 it's uncomfortable for those that might get a sneak peak during your workout. Crack kills people. Also, another personal issue I have is girl's working out in itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny clothes. Wait, can you call it clothes when it's a sports bra and hot shorts?! I don't think so. I mean, don't get me wrong, if you have a sick body and abs like whoa, then by all means work it out girl! But, not everyone has a washboard body, so let's get real. I just thought I would start a discussion about Fashion Faux Pas at the gym and maybe give some advice for what is appropriate for all ladies heading to the gym.

I hate:
1. Just a bra and hot shorts. Call me jealous, but I once had to sport that for dance and I will not go back to that = )
2. Shirts that are just a liiiiitle to short in the torso, so therefore we see every nook and cranny when you do those crunches.
3. Non-athletic shoes. I mean when you work out your body goes through some stress and it needs support. So wearing sandals or keds are not the way to go. I saw a lady the other day walk in with flip flops and got on the elliptical! I mean come on!
4. Street clothes. Ok maybe you don't have time to change but could you not throw some sweat pants in a bag?! Again I saw a man in a polo, cargo shorts and belt who was running on the treadmill...
5. Unsupported bras....need I saw more?! Black eyes anyone!
6. Girls that work out with their hair down, make up full blast and blingin' jewelry. This might be my biggest pet peeve. Ladies, this is not a bar, it's not a runway, and it sure as hell isn't a place where you need to look good. I go to the gym to work hard and sweat. By the time I'm done working out, I look as though I just swam across the ocean. The last thing on my mind is "Do I look ok?!" Who gives a hoot if you look good! Side note: I've read on some websites that wearing makeup and having your hair down can actually cause bacteria on your skin and therefore create blemishes and breakouts. Then you'll really look good = ) So put your hair up, take out the hoops and let's go to work!

Suggestions:
1. Look at Target, Gap or Old Navy for some inexpensive work out clothes. They carry a variety of pants, shorts, bras and cute tops.
2. Working out can feel like a chore so here is my suggestion. When you find a cute outfit and get dressed for work or going out, you feel cute and excited to go flaunt your look. Well the same goes for working out. If you have a cute outfit for the gym you might be more motivated to show it off on the treadmill!
3. Lastly, be prepared for what work out you will be doing. If you are doing a yoga class, I wouldn't suggest wearing sweatpants and a baggy tee. You might want something more form fitting and clothes that won't get in your way. There's nothing worse than doing downward dog and your shirt falls in your face, expsoing your tummy! If you're doing spinning, I wouldn't wear tiny shorts. But maybe that's me. I am against chaffing! Maybe try a pair of biking shorts or leggings.

Any who, I'm hopping off my soap box now and will let you drink this in. Maybe next time I will go off on locker room etiquette. I mean really do you have to walk around naked or have full conversations with people in the raw?! I don't need to see you in your birthday suit. That's all for now! Happy Sweating!

Ruby Tuesday

Tuesday I spiced things up with some bright red cut off shorts! Holla! Well I started my outfit with shoes. I grabbed these multi color ballet flats (from Nine West) and looked in my closet. I stood in front of my closet for about 10 minutes before I remembered I had a pair of red pants that I hadn't worn yet. Well hey it's getting pretty hot outside, so I grabbed my fabric shears and had a hay day! I cut the jeans right at mid-thigh and poof, I got a new pair shorts! I added a white blouse from Anthropologie to keep things neutral. One thing I can't stand is bright colors, upon bright colors, upon bright colors. If I know I am wearing a "stop traffic" bright color, then I try to go neutral in all other areas of the look. Jewelry I kept very simple with some gold studs and a FABULOUS bird's nest ring. Again, like Monday, this outfit was super comfy for work. What do you think? Too bright? What would you change? Love it or Hate it....

Monday's Outfit

So here is my outfit from Monday....

I chose a light pink, patterned skirt from J. Crew. I paired it with a white long sleeved tee with the sleeves rolled up and a light grey, corduroy vest from Urban Outfitters (borrowed from the my wonderful sis). For accessories I added a white shell/bone necklace and brown sandals from Nine West. This was a super easy outfit to style and it was very comfy for a long day at work. What do you think? Love it...or Hate it? Anything you would change?

So after a yummy lunch date with my fashionista Mary Kate, she informed me she thinks my style is "Romantic" ....What do you think? I would have to agree. I like very pretty, delicate clothes but not overly girly or frilly. But I also like to rough up the frills with some edgy or tom boy accents. Now according to MK, I have romance in my wardrobe, but now I need to get some romance in the love department..**ba-dom-ching**

So I'M BACK! I have come out of hibernation! I'm getting reacquainted with my blog and I'm ready to bring sexy back! Later today I will post my outfit and I promise I will try to post what I wear all week! I got stuck in a fashion rut there for a while. Not going to lie, the polo and jeans took over my last 3 weeks. I lost my zest for styling for a bit but have no fear I am ready to start fresh! But while you bite your nails in anticipation for my latest out fit, I'll leave you with my latest obsessions and idols!

Fashion Obsessions:

1. Boyish Romantic looks. So this weekend my sister wanted to wear this cute floral strapless dress for the 4th of July festivities. Well it came with this tie that could be used as a bow or a strap for a halter. Well I stepped in and re-arranged the look. The dress could have been super cute/fancy but we needed to make it more casual. So we took away the bow/strap thing (unnecessary to the dress) and added a brown braided belt to the dress. Then I added a gray/brown corduroy vest and poof! romantic boy! haha It gave the dress a more casual, rugged feel rather than a garden tea party. I love taking something very girly and roughing it up a bit. The easiest way to do this is add a vest, a dark belt, some converse sneakers or anything that gives it that tomboy feel.

2. I'm loving the nautical rope being used in so many clothes and accessories. Especially in detailing of shoes or necklaces. I love an espadrille with the laces being rope. Or a rope belt wrapped around a skirt or pair of wide leg white pants. Very sailor of you! I was wandering around Club Monaco the other day and found this very cool rope necklace. I died...and then I checked the price. After seeing that half my paycheck would go towards this necklace, I started falling out of love. But long story short, I love rope!

2. Super soft graphic tees. I noticed lately a lot of stores are now pumping up their basic tees with designs. This is a great way for someone who doesn't feel like picking out an outfit can add some flavor to their look. Say it's one of those days where you don't have time to put something together, well these graphic tees are the answer. Just grab a casual skirt or a pair of linen pants and throw a floral graphic tee with it and voila! I just bought one from J. Crew the other day. It was a tad on the $$ side for a 100% cotton tee, but hey I liked it. You can dress it up or keep it casual, whatever you decide they are a great time saver.

People Obsessions:

1. Of course as many of you know I love, wait no, adore Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Yes I'm shrugging off the haters. Brush 'em off! I may not be a fan of their lifestyle or food (or lack there of) choices, but you got to hand it to them for their off-the-wall and one of a kind style. They are not afraid of fashion. They do what they want, when they want. They also brush the haters off. I loved them ever since their debut on Full House, Passport to Paris, Billboard Dad, and all other awful....no wait...awfully GREAT movies!

2. LC...enough said! I love this chick. I think she can do no wrong in fashion and the hair department. True story... her hairstyles get me through my "bed-head" mornings when I just don't know what to do with my mop! Not going to lie, before I walk out the door, I look in the mirror and I think "Oh yeah this is totally LC". TMI? haha nah! I love her and although her line of clothes is laughable and the Hills will not be the same without her, she is a 10 in my book!

3. Anna Paquin...Sookie Stackhouse...you stole my heart with the beloved story of Fly Away Home! This girl is my latest obsession and will continue to be until True Blood sucks. Which it never will, so I will love her for ever! I could go off about my addiction to True Blood, but I'll keep this shorter than a novel. I think Anna does an outstanding job as Sookie and she is super cute! I would love to be BFF with her and Bill!

4. Zooey Deschanel. SO FREAKIN CUTE! I think her style is quirky and adorable. She is another girl who I think can do no wrong with fashion! I loved her in Yes Man, Failure to Launch and Elf. She's so vintage and I love it. I also love her in the commercial for Cotton. Who knew she could sing? I DID! She rocked "Baby, It's Cold Outside" in Elf!

Cuisine Obsessions:

1. VitaTops! Whoever did their homework and watched the Seinfeld episode with "Top of the Muffins", you win in my book! Basically, VitaTops are the tops of muffins popped off and packed with vitamins and nutrients. They are delicious and so good for you. They sit in your freezer and then you pop them in the toaster to heat them up. Perfect for an on the go breakfast or quick snack at your desk. I highly recommend them!

2. South American cuisine! Who doesn't love a flavorful piece of fish or steak with smashed sweet potatoes, fried plantain chips and chimichurri sauce! I mean come on people! You honestly can not go wrong with this food! I recently had a small dinner party and made: Fire roasted coconut shrimp, sweet potato mash, fried plantains with black bean dip and corn bread. Let's just say, Bobby Flay move over! It was super easy to make and even more easy to devour. There are a couple of restaurants I like in the city that rock South American cuisine. One is Cuba down near bleeker I believe and the other is Calle Ocho which is close to the Natural History museum I think. Try them and you will not be disappointed!

3. Dried banana chips! Um hello! Bananas...chips...it's the best of both worlds. I bought some from Fresh Direct and they are fan-freakin-tastic! They are sweet and salty at the same time. Screw throwing away rotten bananas because you didn't eat them fast enough...try banana chips and still get all the benefits of the fruit!

Leggings as Pants

I'm back! Sorry it has been a while but better late than never! So for this post I think I'm going to have to hop onto my soap box = ) Leggings....we all love them! Especially during the winter when we want to wear that cute dress but our legs can't take the torture of 35 degree weather. Well through the past few seasons leggings have made a huge hit on the fashion radar...but to be honest I'm pretty sick of them! Especially because they are now being used as pants and not as an undergarment/accessory! Let's be realistic here, leggings as pants? Really? First off the fabric is not very thick and they show EVERY and I mean every curve in the lower region. I think my main problem with wearing leggings as pants is a lot of people don't have the appropriate top to go with them or like a lot of trends, people think they can wear it just because it's popular. Let me tell you, I am a firm believer in dressing for your body. Just because a style is popular doesn't mean everyone should wear it. But don't get me wrong, feel free to strut those leggings just make sure the rest of the outfit compliments the leggings. Exhibit A as to why wearing the right outfit/length of top makes a world of difference. I can't tell you the number of "Yikes!" responses I make to some people I see on the street. If you feel a draft on your butt then I think you might want to reconsider the look you are going for. Also to continue my soap box...I'm really tired of this Nicole Richie/Lauren Conrad look so many girls are trying to pull off. Nothing against Nicole or Lauren! Here is the exact outfit I am tired of....

1. Huge ass sunglasses

2. Hair looks like it could be 2 days dirty

3. Over sized tank with black bra

4. Scarf or over sized cardigan

5. Leggings

6. Tory Burch Flats or stripper platform heels

7. Purse big enough for a dead body

I mean you all know the girls I'm talking about... = )

Any who, hope I haven't offended anyone, but I feel like leggings should only be worn if you need to keep your legs from going numb in the winter or if you have an outfit that compliments your body and the leggings. So an anonymous person gave me the idea to do an "advice: does this work?" column on my blog. I LOVE that idea! So feel free to post comments/ questions and I will give my opinion. I will always let you know "if it works". If you're scared to try a new trend, ask me and I'll try and help you find a way to rock it! Here was the first bit of advice I gave....

Well Anonymous...You don't have to be a fashion guy to pull something off. Here is what I would do with those 2 basic, starter pieces:1. jeans with converses with a v-neck tee -- keeping it super casual and comfy. Take reference to Kris Allen, he tends to wear this exact look!2. The next level might be the jeans and converse with tee and a cardigan. If this brings scary grandpa images to mind...maybe dial it back with a polo and sweater on top3. I love a fun blazer with jeans. Always dresses up a drab jean.4. Maybe even jeans, converse with a button down and whimsical, loose fitting tie.5. Since jeans and grey are such neutral colors add some color to whatever you wear up top. Maybe a red or royal blue. If you're brave maybe a gingham?!I like to scan websites for styling tips. I feel this helps guys mostly bc of this exact reason...you just don't know how to create a look with what you have. How to Jazz Up an "I don't feel like getting dressed" outfit

We all know as girls looking good and having the perfect outfit everyday gets old pretty fast. I am not going to lie, I love to rock jeans and a tee on a regular basis. In college, I would say 98% of the time I wore workout shorts and a tee everyday to class. What was the point in putting on a cute outfit to sit in class for 3 hours? I can't tell you the number of looks I got when I would walk into my classes. Keep in mind almost all my classes were fashion classes and all girls. This meant it was a sin to not be fashionable for class. Luckily, there were others that preferred to wear sweats to class like me. But there are always a few ways you can take a bland outfit and add some spice to it! Here is a list of ways I like to add flavor to a boring look...

1. Fun, patterned cardigan = brings life to jeans and a polo
2. Statement jewelry = adds fun to solid basic colors. Add a red, chunky necklace to a white blouse.
3. Eye catching flats or heels = jeans and a sweater are pumped up with a floral print flat.
4. Fixing your hair down or up. Add a fun braid or some curls. = nothing is more repetitive than a plain pony tail.
5. Bright colors = primary colors can get pretty old, so add some orange or bright purple to change it up. Never be afraid of color!
6. Standout tights = like the Urban Outfitters floral tights, any off the wall tight can bring an outfit to life!
7. Accent belt = simple blouse and cardigan can be cinched together with a great braided belt.
8. Jersey dress = want to look dressy in a second, throw on a simple jersey dress and call it a day. It's just as easy as putting on some jeans, but you'll feel much more girly.
9. Hair accessories = is that cowlick taking over your head? Don't feel like heating up the straightener? Pull your hair back in a pony and add a bright, flower headband.
10. Never underestimate the power of some blush and mascara! = )

Look 2: Ahoy Matey

So it's been a little while since my last post...apologies! So here's a new look for you to check out. I call it "Ahoy Matey!" I think it gives off a nautical feel with the white and blue color palette. I paired some white ankle, skinny jeans with a grey striped t-shirt dress. On top of that I wore a blue, 3/4 length sleeve, cropped jacket. Let me tell you, this was beyond comfy! I am always looking for something cute to wear, but that I know I can be comfortable in. You know there are just those days where you're more busy fussing with your outfit than enjoying your day. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I dread going to the bathroom because I know it will be a "process" to get out of whatever I'm wearing. But enough of that...back to the outfit. I also wore some white/navy striped flats with a navy bow. Side note on the flats. I would venture to say 95% of flats that I buy rip up my feet. Don't you just hate that! I hate buying shoes knowing I will be in pain for the next five or 6 wearings. But I swear by the heel pads you can buy at any drug store. They are meant to fill space for shoes that are a little too big, but they also do wonders on warding off blisters! I highly recommend investing in a pair before you voluntarily endure the next few weeks of blistered feet! Back to the look...Jewelry I kept very simple with just some gold studs and a gold necklace. That rounds out the "Ahoy Mateys" look! I think if you're looking for a way to introduce some "nautical" feel to your wardrobe this is an easy and not "overboard" (no pun intended =) ) way to get your captain on!

So....I'm not going to lie. I love these tights = ) When I showed this to my sister and said "Do you like these?" or of course the famous "Does this work?" I think her answer was "I'm not walking down the street with you if you wear those!" Gotta love her! I guess I see her point, BUT they are just too cool for school! Scenario: It's a Saturday night and you're going out with the girls. You know you want a fun new outfit to wear, but don't have the money...well here's an idea! Take a dress you already have and add some spice to it! A simple pair of tights are less than 20 bucks can change your whole look! Here's the outfit I would assemble...Black mini, strapless dress with cute detailing along the hem or waistline. Add some simple yet sassy jewelry and some black strappy heels. Then to really put the cherry on top of your sundae...these tights! Everything in your look should be simple so that the tights, and your rockin' legs, are the highlight of the night! Now of course you might get some looks....but who doesn't want to be checked out! Either way, win or lose, you are making your own fashion statement. Sometimes I wish we lived in the 80's because I feel like back then no one judged people for their fashion. EVERYTHING was IN! You could wear earrings you made out of a cereal box and people thought it was the new hot trend. Back then the fashion police did not exist! So you know what, even if you think something will get you some "What was she thinking?" stares....pretend you're in the 80's and rock it like Cyndi Lauper!

Do you ever think about what "style" describes you? These days there are so many trends and fads that it is hard to keep up with what is "cool" these days. I have always been one to stick with what is in at the time, but with my own flave-a! I asked some friends the other day, "what would you say is my style?" They summed up my fashion-ality as "preppy". I had to pretty much pick my jaw up off the ground. Preppy? Really? I guess maybe in some ways I am preppy. But a good way that my wise sister explained my preppy look is "put together". I guess you could say I am "put together preppy". I have to pause and apologize for the " "! I am a little quotation happy! Anywhos... Think about it. What is your style? What do you want people to classify your style as? Is there any certain style you aspire to have? True story, I wish I was a hipster. I love the laid back, urban, cool feel hipsters give off. If I had to pinpoint my style....it could take a while. I guess I could sum it up by saying my style is eclectic. I always try and do my own thing while keeping the trends. Some days I feel like a hipster, others I feel like Blair Waldorf and even sometimes I channel Polo. It all depends on what the day brings me as soon as I hit the snooze button. What ever your style might be, DO IT! "Never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game"....the FASHION game that is!

The very first look for my blog! What do you think? I named this look "Romantic Wilderness" as an inside joke between me and my sis...haha! This look has a very girly, romantic feel. The top is from Urban Outfitters. It has a blue trim, which I think brings a different color to the plate. The skirt and belt are from Anthropologie...my second home! The shoes are Steve Madden and the earrings are from...get ready...Claires! I'm pretty pumped to wear this tomorrow. Let me know any thoughts! More looks to come!

So I'm always asking for my friends and families opinions when it comes to clothes. I have always been one for putting "outfits" together....not all were successful. I do remember a time in my life when I thought it was ok to wear the same rainbow stripe shirt every Friday. I have learned my lesson. I have started this blog to get opinions on looks I put together. I will try and create as many looks as I can but everyone knows there are those t-shirt and jeans days = ) Feel free to give me advice and of course praise!
